It’s been said “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”, with that in mind the cronut has been imitated and made available to those who cannot travel to the origin which is located at Dominique Ansel Bakery in New York City.
As I was waiting in the airport terminal, I noticed that Mr. Donut offered their version of the cronut Being a fan donuts and anything new I decided to give it a try. Take note I have yet to try the one in New York, but I did have the privilege to try the one at Wild Flour at the Podium mall in Manila.
Compared to the one at Wild Flour, the Mr. Donut version had decent presentation, but lost some of its translation in taste. Despite the layered look, the Mr. Donut did not offer the croissant flakiness but instead had the texture that was overpowered by the donut element. Nonetheless it was a good attempt and also offered at a fairly reasonable price. The Wild Flour version cost more, but it definitely tasted “special.”
